Keri McCann, chair of the Downtown Morehead City Revitalization Association Board announced that Alive at Five will begin on Friday, April 6 this year, a full two months earlier than 2011.
“The response we had to Alive at Five last year was so great that we had to start earlier,” said McCann.
The first band this year is Killin’ Time, a popular four-piece Crystal Coast band with a large local following. The band’s playlist includes favorites county hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s, but a mix of Top 40s and Southern rock as well. The group performs two popular, original songs: “Bogue Banks Bound” and “Carolina Lady.” Both songs were written by Early Wynn Salter who now lives in Nashville, Tenn.
Up next, on May 4, the Central Park Band performs. The Central Park Band is a talented six-piece dance band based in Clayton and Raleigh with more than 25 years of experience. Their expansive repertoire includes jazz, R&B, beach, funk, modern pop, rock, disco, blues and dance. Playing music from the Beatles to the Black Eyed Pea’s they specialize in audience participation. The Alive at Five free, family friendly concert series takes place in Katherine Davis Park on Arendell St. between 6th and 7th streets from 5-8pm. Coolers are not allowed, however, beverages will be available.
