Surf fishing is a major activity each fall along Bogue Banks, and the Emerald Isle Parks and Recreation Dept. has been taking the opportunity to offer a fun competition each year to those who engage in the sport.

In conjunction with the 10th annual Gordie McAdams Speckled Trout Surf Fishing Tournament, fishing aficionado Dr. Bogus holds a free surf fishing seminar at 6pm on Monday, Oct. 1, offering tips and guidance on speckled trout. Dr. Bogus is one of the area’s most renowned experts.

The 10th annual Gordie McAdams Speckled Trout Surf Fishing Tournament begins on Saturday, Oct. 20 and runs through Dec. 1. Registration is free and all fish must be caught on foot from the surf, pier, inlet or sound. Boats are not allowed and fish must be caught from the area of Fort Macon to Emerald Isle. Held in association with the The Reel Outdoors, the contest offers prizes for a variety of categories.
